Profile

The Department of Geology was established in 1958 to provide quality education in conventional areas of science. The department started offering UG and PG courses in 1958 and 2018 respectively to grow as a hub for teaching and research in frontier areas of chemical science. At present the department has five teaching faculty members, with mixed experience of high-end research laboratories as well as industrial exposure. The department teaches students basic and advanced physical concepts through classroom lectures and field training. Students' performance is monitored by regular class tests, seminars, assignments, and mid- and end-semester examinations. With the department's guidance, the students have secured positions among the top ten ranks at Sambalpur University. The department has two laboratories with necessary equipment like the microscope, identifying minerals, rocks & ore samples, and fossil studies. The department is equipped with the RS & GIS lab along with various instruments like a Spectrophotometer, Brunton compass, clinometer, pH meter, conductivity meter, GPS, etc. to name a few.

Vision

? The Department seeks to afford the highest level of education, continuous revision, and expansion of our educational, research, and outreach programs to produce well-educated, competent, academic, and professional geologists capable of responding to societal needs.
