The Department of Physics at Govt. College Sundargarh offers both UG and PG courses. The Department is dedicated to exploring and understanding the fundamental physical phenomena through classroom lectures, laboratory courses and research. It follows a comprehensive curriculum that includes classical mechanics, quantum physics, thermodynamics, and electromagnetism, preparing students for diverse careers in science, engineering, and technology. The performance of students is monitored by regular class tests, seminars, assignments, mid and end-semester examinations. With the guidance of the department, the students have secured positions among top-ten ranks under Sambalpur University. Faculty members engage in collaborative research across disciplines to tackle complex problems in areas like atomic and molecular physics, condensed matter and nanomaterials, Optics and Nano-photonics. The department fosters a vibrant academic community, encouraging innovation, critical thinking, and hands-on experimentation. Through seminars, workshops, and outreach programs, it aims to inspire the next generation of physicists and promote a deeper understanding of the physical world.
