Profile

The Department of Commerce was established in 1982 with the objective of providing quality education and creating awareness about the significance and scope of commerce. Initially, the department began offering undergraduate courses in 1982 and later introduced postgraduate programs in 2022. Currently, the department comprises five teaching faculty members, including two guest faculty. Staying true to its founding mission of fostering awareness of commerce, the department is dedicated to educating students about the fundamentals of commerce, its role in human life, and its significant contribution to economic development. This is achieved through interactive classroom lectures and case studies. The academic performance of students is continuously monitored through class tests, viva voce, seminars, assignments, and mid- and end-semester examinations. Guided by the Department of Commerce, many students have achieved top ranks under Sambalpur University, reflecting the department's commitment to academic excellence.

To empower students with practical, ethical, and entrepreneurial skills that enable them to create sustainable livelihoods, contributing positively to their communities and fostering self-reliance and resilience in an evolving job market.
