CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT

Profile

The Department Chemistry was established in 1962 with an objective of providing quality education in conventional areas of science. The department started offering UG and PG courses on 1970 and 1994 respectively with an objective of growing as a hub for teaching and research in frontier areas of chemical science. At present the department has nine teaching faculty members, with mixed experience of high-end research laboratories as well as industrial exposure. The department teaches students about basic and advanced chemical concepts through classroom lectures and laboratory courses. The performance of students is monitored by regular class tests, seminars, assignments, mid and end-semester examinations. With the guidance of the department, the students have secured positions among top-ten ranks under Sambalpur University. The department has four laboratories possessing necessary chemicals, reagents, glass-wares and basic instruments for performing various qualitative as well as quantitative experiments in organic, inorganic, physical, analytical and industrial chemistry. The department has various instruments like UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, Electrochemical work station, BOD incubator, Microwave oven, Muffle furnace, Hot air furnace, Ice-maker, pH meter, conductivity meter, colorimeter, potentiometer etc. to name few.
